Smoothies fix almost everything.

Bottom Line I still don't want to pack, it's gorgeous outside, make a smoothie and procrastinate your moving duties.

Tank doing his best impression of me in the mornings.

I have never really been a big breakfast person. I think it's because I'm not a morning person, and thus perpetually late. Who has time for breakfast? I barely have time to brush my hair. I know you're judging me, but look at it this way: if I'm choosing between hair or teeth, which one do you think my coworkers would appreciate more? Yeah, I always choose teeth.

Even when I was younger, breakfast was always like, something I could eat in the car. I don't know, it's just not my thing. It's more like necessary fuel than something I take lots of joy in, the way I do an excellent lunch or dinner. Anyway, since quarantine, I've been able to work on my breakfast game. I made some fantastic cherry and almond muffins, had a fried egg with a piece of toast, a bowl of yogurt with berries and granola... and while the muffins were good, I enjoyed them more as a snack, than I did as a morning meal. So, I've still sort of defaulted to a very large cup of coffee with almond milk, sometimes over ice.

Enter smoothies. I went through a phase as a child where I asked for a smoothie book and then wanted to make them all the time, but beyond that, I don't think I ever really stopped to appreciate their magic. It's the PERFECT breakfast food for a few reasons.

  1. It is healthy. Look, I know they can be packed with fruit juice (which is not healthy) and sugar. But I am not adding any of that to mine. In fact, they have vegetables in them. See? Healthy.

  2. They are pretty filling. Definitely enough to get me from 8:00 am to my 10:30 am snack.

  3. The variety is endless! And I can almost always find a use for the produce that is about to go bad in my fridge. Winning.

  4. They are cheap. Frozen fruit and veggies is best, those are cheaper than fresh. I can use up any leftover produce, which saves us money.

  5. They are fast. Look, when all this ends, and it will end, I will not have the time to make a smoothie every morning even though they are still quick on the breakfast scale. But, I discovered that you can put all of the ingredients you want in your smoothie in a stasher or mason jar, freeze it, and then when you want said smoothie, just pour your liquid in. That's about as quick as grabbing a totally unsatisfying larabar. No offense Lara, your bars are good, but smoothies win in a head to head battle.

So this morning, instead of packing more, I made a smoothie, drank it on the balcony, and went for a run-mostly-walk with the dog. It was dreamy.

Now back to the packing nightmare. But before I go, here are two of my favorite combinations. The first is a delicious and refreshing green gal that reminds me of a spa. The second is essentially a peanut butter and jelly, minus the carbs. Enjoy your breakfast bliss!
